goji berries

{Lycium barbarum}

General: Also called wolfberry, the goji berry plant is a nightshade, closely related to potato, tomato, eggplant and tobacco. Native to China, the word "goji" is an approximation of the pronunciation of the Chinese name, gǒuqǐ (宁夏枸杞). Cultivated along the fertile floodplains of the Yellow River for more than 700 years, Chinese "red diamond" goji berries have a reputation for quality.

Skin Benefits: Containing large amounts of polysaccharides, amino acids and vitamins, goji is considered to be the most powerful antioxidant plant in the world. It helps protect cells and their components from harmful oxidative processes by capturing superoxide radicals and inhibiting lipid peroxidation. Goji also selectively inhibits metalloproteinases-I, which are expressed in the aging process: Goji is of note in its ability to prevent and slow aging, as well as increase collagen production. Our Goji Mate Ultralight Moisturizer and Youth in Bloom Phyto-active Extra Firming Eye Gel incorporate the antioxidant power of goji berries.
