jasmine

{Jasminum grandiflorum}

General: A unique night-blooming flower, jasmine stands tall in the history of perfumery, from Cleopatra to Louis XIV. It is considered sacred in Hindu tradition, is cherished in Hawaiian leis, and is an important part of weddings in Java. Jasmine has been used for thousands of years by Ayurvedic doctors to smooth & soften the skin.

Skin Benefits: Our jasmine decoction or "tea" provides a gentle, cooling anti-inflammatory effect used in our Sunshade Lotion and Pitta Gentle Facial Cleansing Milk. A more potent jasmine aboslute rejuvenates skin, works as an antiseptic and provices mental relaxation in our Geranium & Sweet Lupine Under Eye Cream.

Method of Extraction: We buy jasmine flowers and make a decoction, or tea, here in-lab. We also buy an alcohol-based jasmine absolute that is significantly more potent. It takes approximately 2,000 lbs of jasmine flowers to produce 1 lb of absolute.
