Method of Extraction: Steam distilled from the flowers and leaves.


Fresh, sharp, herbal, warm, musky, middle note.


Bay laurel, bergamot, black pepper, cardamom, atlas cedarwood, chamomile, coriander, cypress, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, jasmine, juniper, lavender, lemon, lime, Melissa, neroli, patchouli, pine, ravansara, rose, sandalwood, sweet orange, tea tree.


Antibacterial, balances estrogenic hormones, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, antiviral, relieves painful menstruation and menstrual cramps, astringent, aids digestion, euphoric, calms and soothes the nerves, wound healing.


Sedating, encourages a restful night's sleep, antidepressant, reduces anxiety, stress management, promotes inspiration, combats confusion and despondency. Aids in clear thinking. 



  • Avoid with barbiturates. Some evidence suggests that clary sage may increase the sedating effects of barbiturates like hexobarbital.
  • Women using hormone replacement therapy- consult with a physician before using. Some studies suggest clary sage may possibly increase the action of estrogen-replacement drugs.


As with all essential oils, never use them undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner. Keep away from children. If applying an essential oil to your skin always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body (after you have properly diluted the oil in an appropriate carrier oil).
